Dental work touches financial nerve
Article Category: Debt Management Help and AdvicePaying for dentistry could touch a very sensitive financial nerve for patients struggling to fund treatment.
As the costs escalate to gum-numbing levels increasing numbers are looking abroad, where fees are lower, to get their pearly whites fixed.
Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said that it could be possible for people to save money by going overseas.
However, he warned that for some patients who "suffer complications" from their treatment and cannot afford to fly back or have it corrected by a UK dentist, "what started as a simple way to save money can quickly develop into a nightmare".
He added: "It can be expensive to correct poor quality dental work and it is very unlikely that your dental insurance policy will cover you for treatment abroad."
Dr Carter concluded by saying that there were a number of payment options available for patients to help spread the cost of any treatment such as dental insurance plans as well as low-rate personal
loans.
